Now this might seem a bit out of character. Why would anyone put information about the Special Operations Executive and Belgian Résistance on a Historical Clothing site? Other than the obvious answer ("my history slut friends talked me into doing yet another period"), there are reasons it's included here and not on a separate World War II living history site.
One of the primary concerns of SOE agents was fitting in with the local population. They had to sound the part, act the part, but most of all look the part of an innocent bystander. Much to my Connery-lovin' chagrin, friends, James Bond wouldn't have stood a chance.
SOE's offices in London employed veteran tailors to create garments that looked like they were bought in the home country, labels included. In SOE's laboratory, the clothing was prematurely aged so it wouldn't look suspiciously new.
