Our pattern for men’s and women’s Japanese Commoners includes full-size pattern pieces and step-by-step instructions on how to construction kosode and hakama in a period manner (as well as directions for machine sewing). This pattern includes the hitatare (top), hakama (pouffy pants), kosode (underdress), mo-bakama (skirt), shitabakama (drawers) and habaki (puttees). Also included are extensive historical notes on the origin and variations of these outfits and directions on how to get dressed.
