RH938 — Gentleman’s Victorian “Sac” Top Coat

Victorian Men’s Coat sewing pattern

Buy our pattern and make yourself a Proper Victorian Topper.

You need our pattern for this beautiful loose-fitting “Sac” Top Coat based on an original pattern from the 19th century.  Fits chests 34″ through 54″ with instructions for larger sizes.

As the frock overcoat was passing out of fashion in the third quarter of the 19th century, a looser unfitted style of overcoat was coming in.  The Sac coat had no shaping at all and flowed easily from the shoulders.  It would become a standard overcoat style in the later Victorian period.

All sizes are  included in one pattern. Detailed instructions, period tailoring directions, embellishment suggestions, and historical notes are also included.

Suggested Fabrics:
coat weight wool

thread, buttons for front closure

Yardage Requirements:
4 yards at least 60” wide
