The Killery Coat -- IT'S DONE OMG IT'S DONE
The hint is in the title.
There's not going to be a whole lot of words in this one. Just pictures. Because it's done.
Finally.
So let's get to it, shall we? Here it is on the mannequin.
Man, my phone camera stinks. Good thing Kass took some pics with her much nicer camera:
Now, there's room for one last lesson learned: How to use the iron to your advantage.

This melton I used was really, really thick. That's wonderful for a coat like this, because it sheds water and it's snuggly warm. But thick = PITA to hem the edges.
Enter the heavy-duty tailor's iron we have tucked into Kass's workshop. You can do the same thing with your home iron, but it'll take more work.

The trick is to use a LOT of steam. Like, fog-your-glasses amounts of steam. Steam the fabric before trying to fold the edge over, because the hot fabric is easier to keep in position for ironing, but for pity's sake be careful with your fingers while you're positioning your fabric! Ask me how I know.
Then, steam the $h!t out of your wool while you press it. Again, watch your fingers; the heavy-duty iron puts out much more steam than a home-use iron, as I discovered to my sorrow.
If you go slowly and use lots of steam, you can press even melton flat, as the figures show.
That's an end to my adventures making the Killery Coat. I hope you enjoyed this Dress Diary. Please look through the Blog Archives for more of our Dress Diaries.
Oh, and go ahead and make your own Killery Coat. Come on, you know you want to.
