Be the beau of the ball in your Victorian Dress Waistcoat!
When worn with evening dress (tailcoats), waistcoats were always white, typically made from marcella or piqué matching the white bow tie. With morning dress (cutaways), waistcoats were grey or buff with black waistcoats only worn for funerals. In the 1880s when the dinner jacket (“Tuxedo”) became the informal alternative to dinner dress, black waistcoats were worn.
