Mainstream pattern companies sell "costume" patterns, usually in the back of their catalog. Invariably they're of poor quality, and they are hardly ever suitable for reenactment or living history. They are designed to be used once and discarded, as the buyer usually makes the garment once - for a Halloween or other fancy-dress party - after which it will end up in the trash.

Welcome to Reconstructing History, the result of my ongoing research
into historical clothing and costume. I'm sharing it for the benefit of
those who study and/or make or otherwise explore historical dress:
costumers, students, historical re-enactors, Renaissance Faire fans,
theatrical costumers, writers, researchers, and (fill in the blank!).
Professional or amateur, Reconstructing History is for everyone interested in fashion, the textile arts, and costume history.
Clothing during the reign of Elizabeth always reflected the social status of the wearer. There would be no doubt in ones mind about picking out the nobility in any given crowd. Clothing was a direct indication of wealth, much in the manner of imported suits in the present.
Reconstructing History stocks many different historical fabrics. We have many years of experience of yarn, dyeing, color, fibers, weaving, and historical fabric.
From the Viking Age to Shakespeare to Hornblower, with everything in between, we have the historical patterns you need to recreate the clothes of the past.
