Renaissance Costume Patterns

Mainstream pattern companies sell costume patterns, usually in the back of their catalog. Invariably they're of poor quality, and they are hardly ever suitable for reenactment or living history. They are designed to be used once and discarded, as the buyer usually makes the garment once - for a Halloween or other fancy-dress party - after which it will end up in the trash.

Costumes made from these patterns are unfitted and not designed to make moving around while wearing them very comfortable. They also have little resemblance to what "real" historical people actually wore.

Reconstructing History patterns are impeccably researched, and are based on extant garments wherever possible. Our patterns are always based on state-of-the-art historical clothing research.
