Be fashionable in the 1770s in your lady's riding outfit!
In the middle of the 18th century, a beautiful outfit can be seen on ladies depicted in outdoor scenes. This is the Lady’s Riding Outfit. Styled after men’s fashionable dress, the Riding Outfit was worn for all types of outdoor activities. Although far more elegant, it was the velour track suit of its day.
Long waistcoat in customer photos is NOT included in this pattern. The short waistcoat in the cover art is included.
In the 1770s the Riding Jacket skirts became shorter and much wider than male coats. Like men’s frock coats, the riding jacket was rarely worn closed, fastened instead by a hook over the upper chest. Also following men’s fashion, the cuffs were small and revers were buttoned back on either side of the front opening. The coordinating waistcoat filled in the open space between the edges of the jacket.
