Make fashionably skinny trousers!
Pantaloons grew out of a trend to cut trousers as close to the leg as possible, in effect a hybrid of the new style of trousers and the formerly fashionable close-fitting breeches. Pantaloons replaced breeches for formal wear early in the 19th century. In the 1850s, pantaloons were replaced by trousers for evening wear.
Use our pattern, based on extant examples and period tailor's manuals, for men's pantaloons circa 1830-1850. Includes the calf-length buttoned style and instructions for an ankle-length version with instep strap.
